"War Zone Urchin" (originally titled "Breaking Point") is a song by Jazmin Bean. It was released as a stand-alone single on December 3, 2019, and was later was made the sixth track on the re-up edition of their debut EP, Worldwide Torture. It was originally intended to be on the standard edition of the EP, however, it was removed from the final track listing.

Background[]

Bean teased the song's title in 2019 via an Instagram post.[1] In November 2019, They held a poll between releasing the song or making a new music video. In the end, they didn’t mind much and ended up releasing both[2][3]. Jaz later announced the release of the song on November 20, 2019, with them putting a snippet of the song's third demo in the background.[4]

Theme[]

Bean has explained on Instagram that this song is about being honest and sticking up for yourself without fear. The song also delves into themes about being repressed and scared to say how you feel in fear of ruining things. The narrator of the song, likely Bean themselves, feels as if they are being "walked all over" and doesn't want that to happen anymore. They feel as if they have they have reached the "Breaking Point" and are willing to stand up for themselves.

Trivia[]

  • As mentioned by Bean during a interview on The Allison Hagendorf Show, they recorded their first two songs Jessica Winter, an unknown song and "Saccharine".[5] It's likely the unknown song is "War Zone Urchin", due to the title being teased prior to the standard release of the EP, and both the unknown song and this song being produced by Winter.
  • The single version of the song was unlisted from streaming services after its release on Worldwide Torture's re-up.
  • The sold the gun on the single cover via their Depop.
