"Traumatic Livelihood" is a song by Jazmin Bean. It is the opening and titular track on their debut studio album, Traumatic Livelihood, and released alongside the it on February 23, 2024.

Background[]

The song was first mentioned, by name, in an interview Bean did with DIY Magazine, published November 24, 2023.[1] It was stated to be one of the first three songs written for the final record, along with "Favourite Toy" and "Shit Show", and made Bean more confident during the rest of the album process.

Bean teased the song's first demo and lyrics via their social media.[2][3][4][5]

It was revealed that the song was the opening track on Traumatic Livelihood firstly through a premature track list reveal on Apple music, and then officially on February 21, 2024, through a album announcement on Youtube. The song along with the rest of Traumatic Livelihood leaked prematurely on February 23, 2024, hours before the album release.

Theme[]

The song itself talks about someone, likely Bean themselves, who has confidence as shown through the lyrics. The narrator talks about how they were "sticky on the floor" and "so ashamed to be", and how they got up gaining their new found confidence, and how while their are still problems that occur throughout their life, they are able to get back up and continue on. Bean has stated themselves that the song in their opinion is one that most people can take their piece from.
