"Growing Pains" (erroneously referred to as "Breaking Bones" and "As Was Before") is an unreleased song by Jazmin Bean. It was intended to be released on the early version of Traumatic Livelihood, however, the project was revised. It was later reused for the final version of the album but was ultimately removed.

Background[]

Bean shared a snippet of the song's first demo on February 24, 2021, and another snippet of the original final on April 25, 2022.[1]

The song was played for Bean's label for them to judge their [now-scrapped] debut album. However, the label did not like the direction of the album, and and getting out of rehab in June 2022, Bean would scrap it. They chose to rework the song with Jessica Winter for the final version of the album, though it was scrapped after Bean decided to only use content they made after rehab.[2]

Theme[]

The song talks about having a crush on someone, but feeling intense emotional pain from not being able to tell them you love them romantically. The narrator talks about how intense the emotional pain is that it feels as if it their bones were getting broken. The narrator talks about how things are not the same as they were before, likely referring to how things were easier when they didn't have this crush. They sing about having growing pains, which is likely what is causing them to not be able to show their true feelings.
