“Carnage” is a standalone single by Jazmin Bean, featuring Lucy Loone, released on November 18, 2022. A acoustic rendition was then released on Jazmin's live EP, Acoustic Church Session, as the fifth track.

Snippet Jazmin posted of them recording the second demo of "Carnage".

Starting from 2019, Jazmin would record multiple versions of the song, more specifically demos. The first few demos, recorded in 2019 and 2020, produced by Jessica Winter, were intended for 'The Re-Up' of Worldwide Torture. Snippets were shared, although the song would not make the final cut, due to being heavily unfinished.

The song was shelved for a temporary amount of time. Jazmin at the time wanted to include a feature on the song. Sometime in 2020, Jazmin met Lucy Loone, and confined with them that they wanted to feature another singer on "Carnage", specifically talking about how they wanted another person in the music video. sometime after this, Lucy was pitched the track, and they wrote and recorded their verse.

Multiple portions of the song's lyrics were teased by Jazmin, through Instagram posts.[1] A snippet of the song's third demo was posted sometime around 2021 as well. Jazmin has stated that the song is directed at people who have a "hater" mentality.

Release and Promotion[]

"Carnage" was originally scheduled for a release in 2021; the music video had already been filmed. However, the song was delayed by a year by one of Jazmin's record labels. The song was re-scheduled multiple times, until the Jazmin's label decided on a date that would make the single perform better in terms of streaming and promotion.

The song was originally intended as the third and final single for the first iteration of Traumatic Livelihood, although during the delay period Jazmin revised the album, making "Carnage" a standalone single.

On June 20, 2022, Jazmin posted a snippet of the song, with the caption "Should i drop this…."[2] On September 3, Jazmin posted another snippet, stating that the song would be released in October, which would be delayed by one month.[3] On the 18th, one month before the song would be released, Jazmin posted a multiple images of the behind the scenes of the the "Carnage" music video, with the caption "Big things coming 🌠💯". [4]

A pre-save link to the song was posted on October 24, and contained an exclusive snippet of the song's music video.[5][6] The release date for November 18, 2022 was announced on the 11th[7], and the song was ultimately released. Some promotion social media posts followed.

The song was mentioned in 2022 by Bean's current friend and former romantic partner, Brooks Ginnan, when they were helping to create the revised Traumatic Livelihood album track list. It was listed as the second track on the draft track list for Traumatic Livelihood.

Background

The music video was recorded a day after the "Puppy Pound" video was shot. In the behind the scenes video, Jazmin explained that the music video was an exact interpretation of the song, going through challenges to bounce back and succeed. Jazmin has since stated that they did not like co-directing both the "Carnage" and "Puppy Pound" music videos, stating that they will only lead direct their music videos from now on.

The director, Shan Phearon stated in an interview on the creation of the music video:

Jaz wanted to drive. They needed a car crash. And a flowery field at some point. Just top-line to decipher. By then, I’d spent months studying the artist and cult fanbase for Puppy Pound. Immersed like ‘method’ Christian Bale in the Jaz metaverse, I had enough to work with.

The label had set us up with healthy time to nurture artist-to-director creative rapport, where I could coach artist development, as well as develop the videos. Getting results, the very supportive Island label team (Holly Williams, Emily Jefferies, Max Creswell and co) and artist manager Donny Tourette, whom I worked closely with, trusted the process.
